I learned something new!

So I realized something today, you know how there are food nicknames for the way people act. Like if an African American is acting "white" she/he is called an Oreo, an Asian who acts "white" is called a Twinkies, but if a White person acts "black" they are called a "Wigger". Why can't we have a nice food name, well I have come up with two good foods to call people, instead of "Wigger" we can be known as either a "Milano" or "cookies and cream". This shall be our cutesy name for White people who act "black".

wow

It has been so long since I last posted something. I feel horrible about not posting since January. This weekend was really an awesome time. Friday I had a huge show that was totally exhausting. It was a 30 minute performance which was just song and dance. I put so much energy into that show that when I got home that night I fell asleep with out a problem and slept for a total of 12 hours. That is the first time this has happened in a long time.

School Project

So I was assigned this project, and I am actually sorta excited for it. However, to complete this work I need to read Mien Kampf by Adolf Hitler. I can't find the book anywhere! I looked online and in the school library, and it is still a no show. My teacher said that if I had issues finding a copy online to tell him and he would get me a hard copy of it, and so I told him I was having troubles. Now, not only has it been a week, but I have told him 5 times that I can't find it and I need his help!

This is really annoying because my grade could suffer because I can't find this stupid book that he told me I need to read, as research.

He is gone, for now

How to make it all better
I do not know,
you never stop crying
why, I need to know.

I want to make you smile
but you can't let go.
You need to see what I see
he has let you go.

He really loves you
but you didn't make him see.
He would have stayed
but you made him want to leave.

I know it is sad
but stop the crying hon,
I can't make him stay
there's nothing that can be done.

not right away,
he really would have stayed
if only you could know
he didn't want to let go.

Jekyll And Hyde

My school went to the Media Theatre in Media Pennsylvania the other day to see a production of Jekyll and Hyde. I thought it was good for what it was, but definitely not the best. There were some really good points of the show like the singing and the actor who played Jekyll/Hyde did an amazing job. My favorite song was "Someone Like You" the song that Lucy sings. The woman playing her had an amazing voice, but sadly she had almost no stage presence. When she sang it looked like she did but only because her voice was so good. Another amazing part was "The Confrontation" which is the part when Jekyll and Hyde start talking to each other, fighting. This scene is very hard to do because the actor has to switch facial expressions, voice, and body position for the different characters in a matter of seconds.

There were quite a few things, how ever, that really annoyed me. Biggest offender was the stage combat which didn't look real at all. Like I understand that they had to tone it down because there were middle school kids there too, but that is no excuse. On top of that a lot of the acting just sucked. The mics on each character were really awkward too, like normally they are supposed to be disguised into the persons hair, on their clothes, or some where else. However they had some that were like that of a pop singer at a concert. They stuck out from around the ear and were in plain sight. Also they had a hook around the back of the head which they didn't even try to hide, I mean they put that mic on a bald person, there was no way to hide it. Tsk Tsk Tsk.

Well that is all for now.
Happy Blogging.
'Til next time, see Y'all.

Back to school

"Go to bed early, you have the first day of school in the morning!"

That is the one sentence that all teenagers and kids in general dread hearing all summer long. Well now it has come, after 3 wonderful months of summer we are here again. Some of us are happy because we can see old friends we lost contact with, and some hate the thought because it means more work and less fun.

This year I made a promise to myself that I would get my work done and handed in on time. So far that is becoming reality, it is only the second day and I have already started doing my work in hopes of getting it done and out of the way. It does help that I am taking my medicine every morning again to help with my A.D.H.D. I logged into the website with all our work on it this morning and found out that we already had 8 assignments for history. I was like, " Are you kidding me?!"

I walked right up to my teacher and asked what we had to do for the assignments and he told me that there were charts that we had to fill out with a partner. I didn't really feel like working with someone else because they can be unreliable, but I found one and we split the work load and have already gotten started. I can't wait for this to all be over.

'Til next time, see ya.

Music

In 5Th grade my elementary school offer music lessons after school. You could sign up for almost any instrument, I choose the flute. After that year, I kinda stopped practicing it. All through middle school my friend Susan tried getting me to play again, because we originally met in 5Th grade when our schools joined together to play a concert. We were sitting right next to each other playing flute. Finally last year, my school opened the performing arts program. It took us half a year, but we did get a music teacher, worked on singing with the performing arts kids, and music, such as instruments, with anyone who signed up for the classes. I started back up with the flute, I really only went to lessons every once and a while so I didn't learn all that much.

Then this year I started flute at the beginning of the year with a brand new flute my dad bought me. I have come so far with it, that the teacher had me start on the alto saxophone. The fingerings for the notes are basically the same so the switch was really easy. I have only been playing saxophone for a little over a month, and I have already played 2 songs in the concert we had last Friday. I am still playing both instruments and I actually know more about the saxophone than my teacher. Only because I have been learning from the finger chart, and he played trumpet for 6 years without even touching another instrument.

My teacher thinks that I am so good on the sax that he actually wants me to audition for the All South Jersey Band. Which is like the best thing for high school students.

Physical Therapy

So earlier in my blog history I wrote a post about my broken butt. Well since then I have been attending Physical therapy, PT, three times a week. It has officially been four weeks and every day I go in I do the stretches, Pilate lifts, bike, squats, balance, and stretchy bands. I had virtually no pain at all, until two days ago when Rob, the physical therapist, asked me what my limitations were. He asked, "Is there any dance move that you can think of that might agitate the hamstring?" "No," I replied, "the only thing that might bother it would be another split." He had me do the split and guess what, when the left leg was in front it was good, no pain, but when I got the right leg out front, my hip cracked again. My pain level before that was like a -2, it shot all the way up to a 6. He wanted me to try it again slower, I was like, "You're crazy." I laid there with ice on for about 10 minutes. I left and headed out to practice after picking up Jason and getting diner. I took 2 Advil and 2 Tylenol as we arrived at rehearsal.

I walked in only to find out that the schedule was changed from vocals to dance. I am a featured dancer and was barely able to walk, yes it hurt that much. I walked in and told the choreograph, guess what she did, *Death Glare*. I did learn the dance, from the sidelines. Now yesterday I stayed after school for practice, mom picked me up and we went to the chiropractor, then to PT, then to get a new x-ray. I was really worried that the crack hurt the hip even more. If something did happen, that would probably mean surgery, and that equals no dancing for about a year and a half. My mom just informed me that the doctor said "There is no big change in the x-rays and that I need to lighten up on the PT for a while." *worried expression* "No BIG changes!?!? Does that mean that there was a change???"

Well that is all for now, see Y'all for the next post.

Renaissance faire

So for the past few years I have been going to the Renaissance faire with my dad and out friends. There is a shop there that sells hand-made dragon puppets, they are extremely expensive. Luckly for me I was able to win one from the egg crack room, I named him Bobward. What is that room you may ask, it is a room where you buy a stirofome egg for either 5, 10, or 20 dollars. The prizes you can win get better depening on how much you pay for the egg. I bought a 10 dollar egg, I think, and was lucky enough to win a puppet. I believe it was worth $150, and it has wings. It sits on your shoulder and it has a wire that goes trough your sleeve to your hand, that controls the movement of the head, left, right, up, and down. They even have some that have two wires because the wings on them can move too. When you buy the egg you also get tickets, I don't remember what the amount depends on. Those tickets are for the dragon raffel at the end of the day. They call out maybe 20 different ticket numbers, if you win you get the dragon they were holding up.

I am lucky for another reason too. My friend Mary, from the moving post, had a smaller one without wings, a "Drabitt". She doesn't have any need for it and so she gave it to me. Her name is Beatrice, love it. I gladly accepted her gift. It wasn't until I got home that I realized that her "Drabitt" and my "full Dragon" had the same color fur. Now Bobward is Beatrice's father. Yay family reunions!!!

That is all for now, see Y'all next post.

P.S. Go to http://www.parenfaire.com/ to learn more about it. Also you should visit it if you get the chance.

Moving

So over memorial weekend, I helped my dad's friend Brenda move. This was wonderful news for her because she wasn't able to keep up with that house or deal with the landlord. Our friends Maureen and Jim are retiring to Florida but their daughter is staying here, so they offered Brenda the chance to move into the house. There is plenty of room for them all to live there but neither one of them likes to clean. So when we were packing up the van with stuff from her old house, I volunteered to vacuum. Never before have I done so much work to vacuum a total of about 5 rooms. She had 2 cats and you saw grey hair instead of red carpet in almost every room. I loved it.

Jim, Maureen, Mary, Brenda, and Jakob are all living under the one roof for a week and a half until they leave for Florida. A cramped house for now, and also very messy, walking into that house makes me want to clean, which I never want to do. The good thing about the moving was that I was fed for free every night, even if it wasn't the healthiest and made me feel a little sick. Either way this was good practice for the end of this month for when I move back into a house with my own room again.

Linda Eder

So I was listening to music on my computer, because I don't have this song on my iPod, and I have the Linda Eder Broadway My Way cd on there. I turn on the very first song, I Am What I Am from La Cage Aux Folles. This song is saying that I am what I am and no one has the ability or right to tell me otherwise.

I like this song because it is the absolute truth. If you know who you are, no one can tell you that you are wrong. I have a connection to this song because I have issues with that kind of thing. People telling me I am not good enough and such, and I let it get to me so much that I become depressed. There is another song, from a different singer/musical, called "Die Vampire Die!", from TITLE OF SHOW. It is saying the exact same thing.

Never let some one change who you are. See Y'all next time.

Phones

Okay, so almost everyone has a cell phone and can't really live without it for long. Well, recently my mom took my phone away because I wasn't doing the make-up work for gym since I have been on medical leave since the end of March. That means that I am responsible to do 21 days worth of work. You have two options, you can either hand copy a sports article, or you can write 25 definitions per day. I being crazy took the definitions, and until I have all 21 days worth of work done I am forced to live without my phone. Yesterday I finished 142 words, and that is almost all of the Q section in the dictionary. I decided to only do the Q, X, Y, and Z sections of the dictionary. Then I will do the sports articles. I guess the reason I am writing this is to tell you, "NEVER PROCRASTINATE!"

Well that is all for now, see Y'all for my next post.

Theatre

So by now you must have noticed that I am a major theatre dork. I can barely go a single day without listening to showtunes for at least an hour or so. I was very fortunate to have my mom, because in 4th grade I asked her if I could start theatre at a local performing arts camp during the summer. This became my home away from home. I have been with the same company for the past 7 1/2 years. I still have many friends from my first year, some of which I practically consider family. My first actual musical was Once On This Island, the summer before I entered 6th grade. The cast that I was part of was one of the best I have ever been in.

I have also been a part of the two show choirs that they have. Encore is the middle school one, and Harmony is the high school one. I was in Encore all three years, and I have been in Harmony for two years so far. Of course there have been times where I have wanted to quit due to all the drama going on there, but what do you expect to get with 50 teenage theatre dorks. I have finally started to get solos in Harmony, which is really exciting.

That is all for this post, see Y'all for the next one.

TAKE FLIGHT

Yesterday (5-26-10) the Performing Arts academy at my school went to see the new musical TAKE FLIGHT. This was the U.S. premiere run of the show, it was only ever performed in London before. The musical tells the story of Amelia Earhart, George Putnam (Amelia's publisher), Charles Lindbergh, and the Wright Brothers, though the history of aviation. We saw it at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton New Jersey. The show will end on June 6th.

The songs were amaing and the different harmonies were beautiful. Sadly we couldn't hear some of them because during one song part of the audience started to clap to the beat of the song. This was started my the 5th graders sitting in front of us. It was a small cast of only 12 people with 4 girls and 8 guys. The parts were split evenly with 1 saprano 1, a saprano 2, an alto, and Amelia who sang like every note in the book. The guys basically were slpit half and half with some who sang as high as tenor 1 all the way down to bass, which is an amazing vocal range. At the end there was a small discussion with the cast and director, but as usual we had to leave right after the show ended other wise we wouldn't have made it back to school in time to catch the buses.

Another funny thing happened because our Music Teacher Mr. Hewitt had us singing accapla on the way up so we finished the song exactly when we pulled up in front of the theatre. A representative from the theatre then came onto the bus to give us the guildlines before we saw the show. My friend, as the guy got on the bus said, "Do you want us to sing you an accapella song?" So when he was finished we sang for him, then he went and talked about us to the other reps, and when the person who was leading us back to the stage came to get us, she knew that we could sing. She then got us to sing right after we sat down in the theatre, she loved it, and so did the senior citizens who were there to see the show as well.

Pain through the arts

Last week my preforming arts class went to see a play "Dear Esther" at the Goodwin Holocaust museum. This play is about a survivor from the death camp Sobibor, Esther. She has been telling people about her story by giving speeches to students at assemblies. The play begins with people saying/screaming racial slurs. Then we meet "real" Esther, she is about 70 years old and is being introduced to the students there for the speech. Now we see the "young" Esther, this is "real" Esther's alter-ego, she is in her 20's and starts talking to Esther. Most of the show is "young" Esther talking to "real" Esther about facing the truth and saying what really happened in Sobibor. Every once and a while she would be talking and a flashback would occur. These involve "young" Esther and a few miscellaneous characters.

During one of the flashbacks Esther tells the story of one day when she was working in the death camp knitting the socks when she heard a train whistle, she stopped. This meant there were new people being brought into the camp, Esther, being curious, was looking out the window to see them. One of the women getting out of the box car left her baby on it, for unknown reasons, she tried to run back and get it, but one of the Nazis chased her away. He then grabbed the baby by it's ankles and slammed it's head against the box car. For the play they used a chair and a baby doll, and even though you know it is not real, just seeing that doll hit the chair was enough to make you want to cry, heck I almost did, and I haven't really cried in about a year.

Also though out the play they would stop talking and you would hear a recording of actual letters written to Esther from students she spoke to. Esther gets to the end of her story and sits in a chair. Then the three people who were shouting the racial slurs in the beginning, start to recite bits and pieces of the letters. The actress who played "real" Esther was really crying on stage, and I was yet again on the verge of breaking down into tears.

That is all I have to say, for now. See Y'all for my next post.

P.S. Don't ever let anything like the Holocaust happen ever again, we are the future and we decide what will happen.

Parties

How many people do you know who don't like parties? Well I love parties, but I have trouble going to them. For example this weekend was my friend's sweet sixteen, and I was invited to go. I got all the way there and realized that I forgot to get her anything. So me being me, I threw a fit and refused to go until I was already gone and my friend told me that I should come back. I then proceeded to rush out of the Friendly's I was in and over to the Acme to get a card. I then had to go home, which luckly was right around the corner, because there was no pen in the car for me to sign the card with. So I got up to my house and I run in and get the pen when I noticed that I had made some gimp key chains, so I grabbed them and ran out the door and went to the party.

After I finally got there I had a blast and was really happy I went. For most of the night we were all playing volleyball, which got annoying when people kept hitting the ball over the fence. The theme of the party was actually glow in the dark/neon. When it got dark enough Briana and a few of us went inside and started to get the glowsticks going. It was so funny where some of the people had the glowsticks. My dad had to come pick me up at 10 and had fallen asleep so it was a really good think I called to remind him to come.

Well that is it for now, see Y'all for the next post.

Dancing=life

For me dancing does equal life, because that is pretty much all I do. Every Tuesday I have rehearsal for my dance ensemble/troupe High Pointe. We are a very small ensemble and we haven't done much, but when we do something we do a show we do it to the best of our abilities. I sadly have had to stop dancing due to my broken butt. This is the most torturous thing that could have happened to me. Dance is basically my only source of exercise and it is my emotional outlet. For me, not dancing is like a fish out of water. Even out of High Pointe I dance, as a featured dancer in the show choir Harmony. I am very critical of myself but I don't necessarily set aside time to practice I just practice all through the day. One of my mom's bosses is taking tap class and he know my twin and I tap, so he asked my mom if we put aside the time to practice and she said, "Their practice time is from the second their feet touch the floor in the morning to the time they fall asleep." A very true statement, I will sit in class going over the dances in my head to make sure that I have them perfect. I do it all the time and when I do that it helps, but sometimes it isn't enough and I will mess up, and when that happens I literally become so mad at myself because I feel like I just ruined the entire dance. So yeah dance is my entire life.

Well that is all for this post, see Y'all next time.

Broken

Hey there,

Okay so almost everyone has had a broken bone at some point in their life and if you haven't yet, I hope you never do. Broken bones hurt, a lot, and when someone has a broken bone you do one of two things. You will either point and laugh, or feel sorry for them and try to be nice and get the door for them. Now, I have broken a total of three bones. The first was my wrist, I don't remember how thought. The second was a compression fracture and two torn ligaments in my ankle. That was in 7Th grade and it happened because I tripped over a chair. But wait, it gets better, a few weeks before I was supposed to get off my crutches I tripped over them and bruised my collar bone. I was in a wheelchair for four weeks and for the school musical, and lets just say that doctor wouldn't let me use crutches ever again.

My most recent one is really funny because I literally broke my butt. I was at casting audition and workshop in Florida and there was a dance party. I being a dancer was showing off and doing crazy things including splits. Now I know what most of you are thinking, "HOW IN THE WORLD CAN A DUDE DO A SPLIT AND WHY WOULD HE WANT TO?!?!?!?!???" The reason I can do it is because I have been dancing and stretching my muscles for the past five years.

The reason I say this is because I, being stupid, hadn't stretched in a week, and I went into a heel stretch right into a split. Normally that wouldn't have hurt me but because I didn't stretch and I didn't put my foot down in between the two I got hurt. When I hit the ground I heard a pop and a crack and quickly got up grabbed my shoes and my friend, Viki, and hobbled over to my mom. She was sitting with Viki's mom, Viki, who is a nurse and I sat down and said, "Mom, I think I dislocated my hip."

Well at first she didn't believe me but I really had hurt myself. My mom helps me hobble out of the Ballroom and lets the event staff know what happened and the staff member, Lamb, sat and kept me company while my mom ran up to get the insurance card that was up in the hotel room. Lamb and I had a terrific conversation and when my mom got back the hotel medical team was already there saying that they were gonna call an ambulance to take me to the hospital. I get there and they do the x-rays, and funny thing is that the x-ray operator was from my hometown here in New Jersey.

They tell me that night that it is only a pulled muscle and to just stay off of it, so I did. That night was the "Red Carpet Event" and while we were in line for that my mom gets a call from the hospital saying that I have an avulsion fracture, meaning that the hamstring was so tense that when I did the split it popped the growth plate off my pelvis.

Now it is all healed and it is roughly two months later. I need physical therapy three times a week for 4-6 weeks. The Cooper bone doctor I saw recommended that I go next door to the Cooper physical therapy office. We get there only to find out that they don't accept our insurance. The bone and joint doctor does, the radiology place does, but not the physical therapy office, all of them are Cooper hospital branches. WHAT THE HAY!!!!!!!!

Well that is all I have for this post, see Y'all again with my next post.

Cabaret

Okay, so I am in the preforming arts academy at my school and just recently we put on the show Cabaret. I, being awesome J.K., played the lead role of Clifford Bradshaw. The show alone was really interesting, and then throw a little bit of personal "high school drama" in with it and rehearsals became a hot mess. I had the privilege of working opposite on of my best friends, Briana, who played Sally on Thursday's show. It was kinda awkward because there were quite a few times where we were forced to kiss and at first I was really uncomfortable with it, but then I realized that her boyfriend wouldn't be seeing the show. By the way her boyfriend, like myself, is over 6 foot, unfortunately he is also strong because he plays sports and I am a dancer with a broken butt, (will explain in another post), so he definitely has the upper hand in that situation.

But as I was saying the show turned out amazing for the cast that we had. The reason I say this is because we are only high school students, but also because the "Kit Kat Girls" had great potential as dancers, but almost everyone of them gave attitudes and didn't take the notes that the director was giving.

That is all for this post, see Y'all next time!

May 3, 2010

Welcome to my life.

This is just a little bit of information about myself I think you should know.
My name is Kevin.
One word I would use to describe myself would be interesting.
My mom's name is Lorena and my dad's name is Thomas.
My favorite subject in school is currently Preforming arts, it used to be math but not right now. I also like lunch.
I mainly read two different genres, Science Fiction, or Fantasy.
My absolute favorite quote is "Dance first, Think later, It is the natural order." -Samuel Beckett
My dream job is to be an actor on either the big screen/t.v. screen, or Broadway.
My goal for the year is to get a job so I can start driving. Oh and not to fail the school year.

Something else you should know about me is that I really don't like to write or read. But when I do I consider the stories and pieces I write to be pretty good, not great, but good.

That is all for this post, see Y'all next time.
